What is BMR?

Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body burns at complete rest to maintain basic life functions like breathing, circulation, and cell production. Even if you stayed in bed all day, your body would still burn these calories.

From BMR to TDEE

To know how much you should eat, you need to calculate your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE). TDEE is your BMR multiplied by an activity factor.

Sedentary

BMR x 1.2

Desk job, little to no exercise.

Moderately Active

BMR x 1.55

Moderate exercise 3-5 days/week.

Very Active

BMR x 1.725

Hard exercise 6-7 days/week.

The Mifflin-St Jeor Equation

We use the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, which is considered one of the most accurate formulas for calculating BMR.

Men: (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) - (5 × age in years) + 5

Women: (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) - (5 × age in years) - 161
